Food prices remain stable as pulses and cereals output surge

Pulses production reached a record 27.4 million tonnes in 2025-26, up from 25.6 million tonnes in the previous year, driven by increased output of major crops including chana and moong. Cereals production also grew by around 5 per cent to 349.1 million tonnes, compared with 332 million tonnes in 2024-25.
The rise in agricultural output has helped keep food prices stable, with sugar rates showing signs of easing as well. The increased production reflects improved harvests across key staple crops.
