Annu Rani excluded from Asian Games squad despite gold; Sable qualifies in steeplechase

Javelin thrower Annu Rani has been excluded from India's Asian Games squad despite winning gold at a qualifying event, as her throw of 57.50m fell 12cm short of the mandatory 57.62m qualification standard. The Athletics Federation of India had communicated to athletes beforehand that meeting the benchmark was non-negotiable for selection.

Meanwhile, steeplechase runner Sable secured his berth in the 3,000m steeplechase event for the Games, clearing the required qualification mark.
