DRI arrests bullion traders in ₹4.72-crore Indore gold smuggling case

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested bullion trader Deepak Khandelwal and his son Nakul Khandelwal from Kota, Rajasthan, in connection with a ₹4.72-crore gold smuggling case busted in Indore on August 14. The arrests, made on August 18, bring the total number of arrests in the case to five. The duo had allegedly fled Indore following the initial DRI seizure.
Investigations reveal the smuggled gold was transported from Akola, Maharashtra, to Indore. The Khandelwals were allegedly supposed to receive the consignment in Tulsi Nagar. The DRI is probing the involvement of bullion market traders in distributing the gold and passing it to other dealers in the city.
The accused are suspected of deliberately discarding their mobile phones during arrest in Kota. The DRI believes the phones may contain crucial evidence including contacts, conversations, and transaction details related to the smuggling network.
