Indore Colleges Launch Voter Registration Camps for Gen Z Students

Government colleges across Indore are hosting voter registration camps to help students aged 18 and above obtain their first voter IDs. The initiative, conducted at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Arts and Commerce College, Government Holkar Science College, and Government New Law College, aims to encourage participation among Gen Z and strengthen democratic awareness.
Camps were scheduled with flexible timings, requiring students to bring Class 10 marksheets, electricity bills, Aadhaar cards, passport-size photographs, and parents' voter IDs. According to Dr Mamta Chandrashekhar, principal of the arts college, 39 students registered on the first day and 57 on the final day. Staff at Government Holkar Science College reported around 15 to 20 students participated in the camps.
Indore has two parliamentary constituencies, nine Assembly constituencies, and 3,210 polling stations. By bringing registration services to campuses, authorities aim to address awareness gaps and procedural barriers faced by first-time voters. Student Dimple Verma praised the initiative, noting that the camps were accessible and officers provided clear guidance, particularly helping students from outside the city. Similar camps have been organised across Madhya Pradesh government colleges to ensure eligible students are included in electoral rolls.
