X-ray machine breakdowns leave patients struggling at Indore's major government hospital

Patients at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH) in Indore are facing significant hardship as both digital X-ray machines in the new outpatient department have stopped working. The hospital typically conducts X-ray examinations for 200 to 250 patients daily. One machine has been non-functional for eight months, while the second recently broke down, forcing the facility to rely on a portable X-ray machine originally used only for chest examinations.
Elderly, disabled and seriously ill patients report particular difficulty navigating between the new and old buildings for services. Hospital Superintendent Dr Ashok Yadav said one machine requires a 15 to 20-day replacement for its faulty tube, while the other has a damaged component. The hospital plans to temporarily shift a machine from the chest ward and operate it manually until repairs are completed.
