First Tunnel Boring Machine Launched For Indore Metro Underground Construction

The Indore Metro project has reached a crucial phase with the successful launch of its first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), named 'Narmada', near the airport on Thursday. The 410-tonne machine will construct the underground metro tunnel between Airport and Bada Ganpati station.
The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd deployed advanced engineering and safety systems for the operation. A combination of Megalift System and Strand Jack Assembly was used to lower the machine into the shaft, with capacity to handle loads exceeding 1,000 metric tonnes.
The TBM launch is expected to accelerate underground construction work using modern mechanised technology, reducing surface-level excavation in built-up areas and enabling controlled tunnelling operations.
