Garbage Crisis Deepens in Indore as Sanitation Strike Enters Day 3, BJP-Congress Spar

Indore's sanitation crisis has escalated as a strike by cleaning workers entered its third day on Wednesday, with garbage accumulating across multiple areas. The workers, who downed tools on October 5, are demanding job regularisation, equal wages, an end to contractual employment, and compassionate appointments for medical grounds, along with other service demands.
The dispute has triggered political friction between the BJP and Congress. Former minister Sajjan Singh Verma of the Congress criticised municipal leadership for ignoring workers who built Indore's clean-city reputation. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav acknowledged workers' legitimate demands but alleged some were deliberately dumping waste to tarnish the city's image. Tensions peaked when protesting workers attended a BJP event, resulting in a heated confrontation.
Congress leaders staged their own protest, placing posters near garbage heaps to demand swift resolution. The prolonged strike has intensified pressure on civic authorities to restore services and address worker grievances.
