Instagram Photo Cracks Two-Year Jewellery Theft Case in Indore

Police in Indore arrested a former domestic worker for allegedly stealing gold and diamond jewellery and other valuables worth approximately ₹3 lakh from the house of an iron trader's mother in Scheme No. 78. The thefts had been occurring since 2024, but a photograph posted on the suspect's Instagram account alerted the family and led to the arrest.
Complainant Sanjay Jhalani reported that items including a gold chain with diamond-studded pendant, diamond-studded gold ring, and expensive glasses had been disappearing from his mother's house at different times. Police registered a case and launched an investigation after spotting the stolen items visible in the Instagram photograph of the former domestic worker, Poonam.
During questioning, Poonam allegedly confessed to the thefts and provided information that helped police recover the jewellery and household items. Poonam had worked at the house for around three years before leaving approximately two months ago. Investigation is ongoing.
