Islamic scholar challenges Maharashtra anti-conversion law in high court

An Islamic scholar has moved the Maharashtra High Court challenging the validity of the state's anti-conversion law. The petition contends that the Act impermissibly infringes constitutionally protected rights to dignity, privacy, individual autonomy, freedom of conscience, religious liberty and secularism.
The challenge raises questions about the compatibility of anti-conversion legislation with fundamental rights guaranteed under the Indian Constitution. The case is likely to focus on whether such laws strike the right balance between state regulation and individual freedom of religion.
