CMO orders Collector action after TNIE report on illegal tree-felling in Kochi

The Chief Minister's Office has directed the Ernakulam district collector to take appropriate action following TNIE's report on the alleged illegal chopping of three trees near Changampuzha Park in Kochi. The corporation, a local councillor and PWD have filed complaints with Elamakkara police, but the force has not yet registered a case, citing technical issues.
Ward councillor Vijayakumar K A alleged that a clinic named Skin Secrets felled the trees while falsely claiming corporation permission. Police delayed action citing lack of official tree numbers. An environment expert questioned this reasoning, asking whether unnumbered trees in public spaces could be axed without accountability.
The trees were planted by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd about 15 years ago. The issue drew petitions from residents' associations and students, prompting the CMO's intervention.
