Kerala clears 27,310 kg waste from 78 beaches in coastal cleanup drive

Kerala's 'Clean Coast, Safe Sea' campaign, organized by Prakrithi Raksha Suposhan Vedi Kerala, cleaned 78 beaches and 11 water bodies across the state as part of World Coastal Cleanup Day. Over 10,900 participants, including 7,400 students, collected 27,310 kg of waste in a single day, which was handed to Haritha Karma Sena for disposal. The drive involved 299 organizations and 206 educational institutions.
The campaign, running until October 2, highlighted the need to protect oceans from pollution and the importance of marine ecosystems. Organizers emphasized that coastal cleanup must be a continuous effort. According to the organizers, several coastal areas in Kerala could disappear within 25 years if current pollution trends persist.
