Ancient Khade Hanuman Idol Relocated in Ujjain Amid Protests and Heavy Police presence

The Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) successfully relocated the ancient Khade Hanuman idol on Friday evening under heavy police presence, despite rain and public protests. The operation was part of efforts to shift idols from Khade Hanuman Mandir and Taksali Ganesh Mandir to Tanki Chowk as part of a road-widening project in the Sati Gate-Chhatri Chowk area. However, the Taksali Ganesh idol could not be relocated.
The relocation faced strong resistance from residents and members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, who blocked highways and gathered at the temple premises chanting Hanuman Chalisa. An earlier attempt on August 30 was abandoned due to public opposition. Work resumed Friday after being suspended Thursday night due to rain.
Residents have demanded that Tanki Chowk be renamed 'Hanuman Chauraha' following the idol's installation. Temple priest Mahesh Bairagi said documents provided by UMC have been sent for legal examination, adding they have no objection to relocation if legal rights are granted.
