Kolkata home registrations dip 12 per cent in Jan-Sep; larger flats gain share

Home registrations in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area fell to 41,309 in the first three quarters of 2026, marking a year-on-year decline of about 12 per cent.
Despite the overall drop, the data points to a clear shift in buyer preference. Mid-sized and larger apartments gained a larger share of registrations, suggesting growing demand for more spacious homes.
September recorded 4,845 registrations, which was also lower than the same month last year. North Kolkata accounted for 36 per cent of total registrations, making it the dominant region in the period.
The trend reflects buyers' increasing interest in roomier and more practical living spaces.
