Lokayukta Catches Junior Supply Officer in ₹1.5 Lakh Bribery Trap in Indore

The Lokayukta Special Police Establishment in Indore arrested a junior supply officer and his alleged mediator on Monday for demanding and accepting a bribe outside the Indore Collectorate. According to SP Lokayukta Rajesh Sahay, the Food and Civil Supplies Department officer Rahul Sharma allegedly threatened a rural gas agency co-director with a criminal case and demanded ₹2.5 lakh to settle the matter. The amount was negotiated down to ₹1.50 lakh, with ₹1 lakh paid as advance.
After the complainant refused to pay the remaining ₹50,000, he approached the Lokayukta. A trap was set up near the Collectorate premises where Sharma's alleged mediator Ramu Lohiya was caught accepting marked currency notes. When Sharma arrived at the meet point, he allegedly refused to take the envelope containing the bribe money and instructed Lohiya to deliver it to his residence. A case has been registered against both under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
