Madhya Pradesh Targets Drug-Free Status by 2029 With 'Detect, Disrupt, Destroy' Plan

Central agencies have presented a 'Detect, Disrupt, and Destroy' strategy to make Madhya Pradesh drug-free by December 31, 2029. Senior officials from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, state home department, MP Police, Narcotics Control Bureau, and other security agencies met in Bhopal on Saturday to discuss the roadmap.
The plan aims to dismantle entire drug networks—including suppliers, financiers, handlers and cartels—rather than targeting only couriers. Key measures include eliminating 100 major interstate and international drug mafia figures, maintaining surveillance over opium-producing areas, and tracking habitual drug offenders. The strategy will leverage AI, data analytics, community policing, and monitoring of darknet and cryptocurrency networks used in illicit trade.
The approach mirrors the formula used to make Madhya Pradesh Naxal-free, according to the Union home minister's directive. Special emphasis has been placed on controlling chemicals used to manufacture synthetic drugs and accelerating asset confiscation under the SAFEMA Act.
