18 DIGs to be promoted to IG rank in Madhya Pradesh on January 1, 2027

The Madhya Pradesh police force will ease a six-year shortage of IG-rank officers with the promotion of approximately 18 DIGs on January 1, 2027. These promotions will strengthen the pool of senior officers at Police Headquarters and range levels, where DIGs currently hold additional charge of several key IG posts, including heading the Gwalior Range.
Currently, the state has 51 DIGs from the 2009 to 2012 batches, with the 2009 batch accounting for 20 officers. Eighteen officers from this batch are set for IG promotion. The state police currently has 16 IGs posted, but this will increase to 33 following the promotions and the elevation of one IG to ADG rank on the same date.
A Departmental Promotion Committee meeting will be held for the entire 2009 batch. Special DG Administration Adarsh Katiyar noted that the promotions will ease the filling of senior positions at Police Headquarters and within the ranges.
