Madhya Pradesh Raises MBBS Intern Stipend by 50% to ₹21,500 from April 2026

The Madhya Pradesh Public Health and Medical Education Department announced a 50% increase in the monthly stipend for MBBS interns at government medical colleges, raising it from ₹14,337 to ₹21,500. The revised stipend will take effect from April 2026.
The hike comes after MBBS interns staged protests demanding a stipend of ₹30,000. Their demands were prompted by an increase in tuition fees at government medical colleges from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, and concerns that other states offer better stipends to interns. Following a two-day protest at Kamla Park that caused traffic disruptions, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla announced the 50% increase on September 9.
