Madhya Pradesh School Education Fails to Meet Standards; No District Crosses 60% in Latest Assessment

Madhya Pradesh's school education system has shown poor performance in the latest Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D) 2025-26 released by the Union Ministry of Education. None of the state's 55 districts crossed the 60% performance mark, with 45 districts placed in 'Prachesta-2', six in 'Prachesta-1', and four in the lowest 'Prachesta-3' category.
Sidhi emerged as the best-performing district with 333 out of 600 points (55.5%), followed by Ujjain, Shajapur, and Damoh. However, even the top-ranked district failed to reach 60%. Major cities also underperformed: Bhopal scored 285 points and Indore 284. Tribal districts Jhabua, Alirajpur, Khargone, and Barwani recorded the lowest scores, ranging from 226 to 231 points.
The assessment revealed significant gaps across categories. Learning outcomes and school safety remained weak across multiple districts. Digital learning infrastructure was particularly poor, with Barwani recording just 16% in digital learning and Dhar at 20%.
