Madhya Pradesh Schools Directed to Complete Syllabus by January 31 Ahead of Census Duty

The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department has directed teachers to complete the academic syllabus for the 2026-27 session by January 31, ahead of their deployment for Census duties starting February 1 through the first week of March. The directive, issued to all district education officers and coordinators, emphasises that academic work must not be disrupted when teachers are engaged in Census-related activities.
Currently, schools are reportedly about 50 per cent through the syllabus, with progress varying across institutions. The academic session began April 1, followed by summer break in May-June, with regular classes resuming in July. The education department has stressed that teachers are crucial to maintaining academic standards during the Census duty period.
The department noted that the National Education Policy 2020 prescribes around 200 working days for Classes 1–5 and 220 days for Classes 6–8, with 800 and 1,000 annual teaching hours respectively. Schools have been asked to adjust schedules to ensure curriculum completion and student competencies are met.
