Madhya Pradesh to procure short-term power for Rabi season amid expected 21,000 MW demand

The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated a short-term power purchase process through tariff-based competitive bidding to meet electricity demand during the Rabi season. The state has invited offers from trading licensees, generators, state utilities and distribution licensees across the country for firm electricity supply from November 20, 2026 to February 20, 2027.
Rabi season power demand in the state is expected to reach 21,000 MW, significantly higher than the current demand of 13,000-14,000 MW. Officials noted that power availability is typically low in the market during Rabi season. The state recorded 20,000 MW demand during the last Rabi season. The tender specifies delivery through Western Region transmission interconnection points for inter-state supply and state transmission network for intra-state supply.
