Madhya Pradesh Teachers Transferred Despite Census Duty Ban, Allegations Emerge

The Tribal Affairs Department in Madhya Pradesh has come under fire for allegedly transferring teachers assigned to census duties, in violation of established government guidelines. Teachers engaged in census work are prohibited from being transferred until the census process concludes, yet administrative transfer orders have reportedly been issued.
Several women teachers from Balaghat district have allegedly been transferred approximately 600 km away to Alirajpur and Anuppur districts. Teachers from Indore, including Vishnu Shrivas, Swati Sonwane, Seema Joshi, and Sanjay Deshpande, were similarly transferred despite being assigned census duties. The Directorate of Public Instruction had previously instructed district authorities to upload details of all census-engaged teachers to prevent discrepancies.
Teacher organisations contend that the department disregarded established norms and personal circumstances in executing these transfers. According to a May 27 order by the General Administration Department, employees assigned to census work are barred from transfer until February 2027.
