Mahua Moitra files police complaint against Chief Election Commissioner

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra filed a police complaint at Parliament Street police station on Thursday against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, seeking registration of an FIR. The complaint relates to reports that two election commissioners objected to several decisions of the Election Commission during the special summary revision (SIR) exercise.
Moitra cited an Indian Express report stating that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had formally objected at least 14 times over ten months to decisions on voter addition, deletion, restoration and registration process changes. She argued the CEC lacked authority to act against the recorded opinion of both colleagues and had no power to issue communications in the Commission's name without approval.
The TMC leader also raised concerns about potential misuse of public funds allocated for the SIR exercise and argued that statutory duties to register an FIR and conduct investigations cannot be shielded under immunity provisions of the Election Commission Act.
