Major ports handle 8% more cargo in first half of FY27

India's major ports processed 8% higher cargo traffic during April-September 2026 compared to the same period last year, data showed.
The growth was underpinned by increased volumes across key segments—containers, petroleum and lubricants (POL), iron ore, and coal—signalling robust domestic and international trade activity.
However, the performance was not uniform across all ports. Chennai and Paradip recorded lower throughput during the period, indicating uneven distribution of cargo handling among major port facilities.
