Manipur govt employees hold silent rally demanding pay commission, pension reforms

Hundreds of Manipur government employees and pensioners held a silent mass rally in Imphal on Friday, organised by the Joint Administrative Committee of the All Manipur Trade Unions' Council and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation. The march pressed the state government to address a 10-point charter of demands.
Key demands included implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, enhancement and release of pending Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to match Central Government levels, and raising retirement age from 60 to 62 years. Filling thousands of vacant government posts was also raised.
JAC president Rajkumar Basumani Singh said several major demands remained unresolved despite discussions with the chief minister and chief secretary. He noted that while the 8th Pay Commission process had begun across the country, Manipur showed no signs of adoption. He claimed around 50,000 sanctioned posts lay vacant, causing an estimated loss of Rs 3,444 crore annually.
