Marathi Play Crafted from Forgotten Grindmill Songs of Women

Mayuri Ravindra has developed a Marathi play rooted in the oral traditions of women who sang at grindmills, songs that were never formally documented. Her entry into this material was not through academic channels, though the research process that followed proved extensive and thorough.
The project represents an effort to preserve and celebrate folk cultural expressions that exist largely outside institutional records, centering the voices and labour of women in traditional settings.
