Mbappe Becomes France's All-Time Top Scorer as Deschamps Backs Star

France manager Didier Deschamps praised Kylian Mbappe as "extraordinary" following the two-time champions' 3-1 victory over Senegal in their opening Group I match at MetLife Stadium. Mbappe scored twice in the comeback win and became France's all-time leading goalscorer with 58 goals.
Despite missing several chances earlier in the match, Mbappe broke the deadlock in the 66th minute. Deschamps defended his star player against criticism, noting that Mbappe's primary role is to score goals. "He can miss a goal or two, but he can tip the scales," the French manager said, adding that Mbappe was "ruthlessly efficient" in the victory.
Mbappe emphasized that his focus remains on team success and winning the World Cup, stating that individual records follow as a consequence of collective achievement.
