MCX Sets Record Daily Turnover of ₹62.93 Lakh Crore, Options Drive 98% of Volume

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) achieved its highest-ever daily turnover of ₹62.93 lakh crore on Friday, August 28, marking a significant milestone for India's commodity derivatives market. Options trading dominated, generating ₹61.84 lakh crore in notional turnover, while commodity futures contributed ₹1.09 lakh crore.
Trading volume crossed 3.13 crore lots during the session, reflecting growing participation from hedgers, traders and investors. The exchange has been strengthening its delivery framework, with June 2024 seeing the introduction of Good Delivery Norms for primary aluminium, refined copper and refined zinc, establishing independent standards for production plants and quality assurance.
Market participants note that standardised delivery and quality frameworks are deepening the links between India's physical commodity and derivatives markets, attracting broader participation in organised commodity trading.
