Over 1,000 Rescued as Floods Hit Satna-Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh

Around 1,000 people have been rescued in the flood-affected Satna-Chitrakoot region of Madhya Pradesh following heavy rainfall on Sunday. Approximately 5 inches of rain in just 3 hours caused water levels in the Mandakini River to rise 8 metres above the danger mark, submerging 50 villages across the two districts. No deaths have been reported so far.
Rail traffic has been severely disrupted, with 28 passenger trains and 20 freight trains affected as water flooded railway tracks. Power supply has been partially restored in 50 per cent of affected areas after poles were swept away. NDRF and SDRF teams are conducting ongoing rescue operations, with one army helicopter pressing into service to airlift stranded persons. Schools have been declared closed until September 1, and ten relief camps have been set up in Satna district.
