MP High Court seeks explanation on 1,000 dacoity bookings in 'dacoit-free' state

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice seeking an explanation for over 1,000 bookings under a dacoity statute that is 45 years old, even as the state has been declared free of dacoits.
The court's action raises questions about the continued application of the archaic law and the circumstances under which such large-scale bookings have occurred in a state officially declared to have eliminated dacoity as a crime category.
The High Court has called for a response detailing the rationale and legal basis for these ongoing prosecutions.
