Nagaland institutions observe International Day of Peace with focus on education and dialogue

Various institutions across Nagaland marked the International Day of Peace 2026 on September 21 under the global theme "Invest in Peace- For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day." At the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research, principal Fr. Dr. C.P. Anto emphasised that sustainable peace must be nurtured through education, dialogue, human dignity and responsible citizenship. He proposed systematic introduction of peace education at school level.
At St. Joseph University in Dimapur, the Department of Political Science observed the day with a programme where Dr. Somingam Mawon stressed that peace requires continuous investment in dialogue, justice and human rights. He referenced concepts of Negative Peace and Positive Peace, noting that much of Northeast India remains trapped in negative peace. A painting competition was also held.
At the State College of Teacher Education in Kohima, a Mental Health Awareness Programme and peace observance were organised. Resource person Rev. T. Karang Maram underscored that peace is an ongoing process rooted in justice, equity and social harmony, urging participants to move beyond passive peace toward transformative change.
