Nagaland Legal Services settles 977 cases through Lok Adalats

The Nagaland Legal Services Authority (NLSA) has settled 977 out of 1,339 cases through three Lok Adalats conducted across the state in 2026, resulting in settlements totalling Rs 9,83,86,354, according to NLSA member secretary NJS Neiko Akami.
The Legal Aid Defence Council operates in all 11 districts with contractual lawyers, with preference given to local advocates. Dimapur, with a higher caseload, has an additional LADC. Central funds support lawyer salaries and legal awareness programmes, supplemented by grants from the state government and National Legal Services Authority.
Legal aid services are provided free to economically weaker sections. Common Lok Adalat cases involve bank loan defaults, motor accident claims, matrimonial disputes and compoundable offences. Under the Nagaland Compensation Scheme 2012, Rs 72.8 lakh was disbursed to 54 crime victims from January to August 2026, including 41 minors.
