Nagaland man convicted for possessing child sexual abuse material

A 34-year-old man from Chekiye Village in Chümoukedima, Nagaland, has been convicted of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on the messaging platform Wickr.me. The Special Judge for POCSO cases in Kohima delivered the conviction on September 15, 2026, under the Information Technology Act and POCSO Act.
Forensic examination of the accused's electronic devices revealed 1,212 images, nine videos and related chats across 18 Wickr.me groups depicting minors in sexually exploitative situations. The case originated from information shared by Stockholm Interpol to Indian authorities via the CBI/Interpol channel.
The court sentenced the accused to two years' rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 50,000, plus three months' additional imprisonment in default of payment. An additional fine of Rs. 5,000 was imposed under POCSO provisions. The court noted that the quantity and nature of material, along with uploading and sharing activities, were significant factors in determining the sentence.
