Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency Marks World Bamboo Day with New Facility

The Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) observed World Bamboo Day 2026 on Friday at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre in Sovima under the theme "Bamboo Beyond Borders." The event featured the inauguration of the "Green Gold Barn," a new facility designed to showcase bamboo applications through traditional knowledge, technology and innovation.
NBDA Chairman Nuzota Swuro highlighted bamboo's role in Nagaland's history, culture and rural economy, noting its emergence as an avenue for enterprise, employment and sustainable development. Since its establishment in 2005, NBDA has expanded from plantation to skill development, processing and market promotion under the "Naturally Nagaland" brand. The agency has set up two Common Facility Centres generating employment for over 500 people.
Mission Director Tiameren Chang emphasised bamboo's potential for sustainable development and livelihood generation. NBDA's achievements include block plantation covering 1,506 hectares and training of over 200 entrepreneurs and artisans, with efforts to strengthen national and international market linkages for Nagaland's bamboo products.
