Nagaland MP inspects delayed highway projects, seeks faster completion

Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir on Thursday inspected ongoing road projects under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), including the Patkai Bridge and Phesama stretches in Nagaland. He directed officials and contractors to expedite restoration work and ensure long-term solutions to recurring road failures.
Jamir questioned NHIDCL officials over prolonged problems on the stretch, noting that the project had taken 12 years against an initial five-year timeline. He urged the corporation to ensure a safe road within two years and questioned whether Nagaland's topography was more challenging than elsewhere.
NHIDCL officials said diversions would be undertaken at critical locations, with four bridges to bypass the most vulnerable portions. Bridge works are expected to take around two years. Officials emphasized that a comprehensive Detailed Project Report was necessary to avoid recurring failures.
