Nagaland nursing seminar emphasizes quality care practices and patient safety

A two-day Continuing Nursing Education seminar organized by Naga Hospital Authority Kohima commenced on Tuesday under the theme "Quality in Healthcare: Empowering Safe, Effective and Patient Centred Care." Around 100 nursing personnel from across Nagaland are attending to update their knowledge in line with National Quality Assurance Standards.
NHAK Nursing Superintendent Pinuo Nakhro delivered the keynote address, emphasizing that quality healthcare extends beyond infrastructure and equipment. She highlighted the importance of continuous improvement, infection prevention, biomedical waste management and patient safety protocols. Nakhro stressed that nurses play a central role throughout a patient's healthcare journey and that quality nursing practice directly contributes to overall outcomes.
Seminar sessions cover documentation, record keeping, quality indicators, patient rights, medication safety and early recognition of clinical deterioration. Speakers emphasized that proper documentation ensures continuity of care, while medication safety requires vigilance and double-checking, particularly with high-alert medicines.
