Over 1,375 Nagaland schools lag behind on cleanliness assessment deadline

More than half of Nagaland's targeted schools remain pending completion of the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2026-27 assessment as the September 30 deadline approaches. According to progress data as of September 19, only 1,325 of the 2,700 targeted schools had completed the evaluation, marking a 49.07% completion rate. A total of 1,375 schools have yet to initiate or complete the process.
SHVR is a Ministry of Education initiative designed to assess and improve cleanliness, hygiene and environmental standards in schools. Schools evaluate themselves across areas including water facilities, toilets, handwashing provisions, maintenance practices, behaviour change, capacity building, and Mission LiFE activities. The assessment helps institutions identify gaps and plan improvements, with ratings assigned based on performance.
With only 10 days left before the deadline, Nagaland must complete assessments in the remaining 1,375 schools to achieve full participation. Non-completion means the State lacks comprehensive data on sanitation, water, hygiene and environmental practices across its school system. The programme applies to both government and private schools in rural and urban areas.
