National Commission for Women urges Kerala government to resume triple talaq study

The National Commission for Women has written to the Kerala government requesting it to resume a study on triple talaq and its effects on Muslim women in the state.
The NCW's move comes as part of efforts to gather data on the practice and understand its implications for women's rights and welfare. The study aims to document instances and consequences of triple talaq divorces among Muslim communities.
Triple talaq, the practice of instantaneous divorce by utterance of the word talaq three times, was criminalized at the central level in 2019. However, the NCW's request suggests ongoing concerns about the practice's prevalence and impact at the state level.
