MP High Court Orders BMC to Reconsider Commercial Property Sealing Action

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday directed the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) to reconsider its sealing action against properties allegedly being used for commercial purposes in residential areas. Justice Vishal Mishra granted the civic body four weeks to take a fresh decision in compliance with Supreme Court orders.
The order came while disposing of a petition filed by Vinod Kumar Singh and others challenging a September 5, 2022, show-cause notice that threatened sealing and demolition of their freehold property. The petitioners claimed the area was earmarked for commercial use under the master plan and their property had been converted from leasehold to freehold. The court granted petitioners seven days to submit a detailed reply and directed authorities to provide them a hearing opportunity.
