Nifty, Sensex end higher; Axis Bank, Asian Paints lead gains

Indian equity benchmarks closed with modest gains on Friday. The Nifty 50 index rose 0.34% while the Sensex gained 0.43%.

Axis Bank and Asian Paints emerged as the leading gainers on the indices. Max Healthcare and Infosys were among the top losers during the session.
