NISC responds to SC Jamir's remarks on Naga conflict and Nagaland's status

The Naga Indigenous Scholars Council has responded to former Nagaland Chief Minister and Governor SC Jamir's recent remarks on the long-standing India-Naga conflict. NISC questions why Jamir is only now addressing the issue, noting the conflict has existed since 1956.
NISC acknowledges Jamir's right to free speech but argues his statements merit criticism. The Council questions what Jamir means by "Nagaland," noting that British colonization covered less than 25% of Naga areas. NISC suggests Jamir may be excluding historically uncolonized Naga regions when defining Nagaland's boundaries and its relationship with India.
NISC further contends that Nagaland's 1963 statehood creation, which Jamir supported as a member of the Naga People's Convention, may not represent all Naga populations. The Council raises questions about uncolonized Naga areas and their inclusion in the Indian state framework.
