Nizamabad police book 1,784 drunk-driving cases in six weeks

Police in Nizamabad registered 1,784 drunk-driving cases over a six-week period as part of a traffic enforcement drive. Of those booked, 124 offenders were sentenced to one week in jail, while the remaining violators faced collective fines totalling ₹1.45 crore.
The crackdown appears aimed at curbing road safety violations linked to alcohol consumption while driving, a recurring public health concern across Indian cities.
