Northeast Education Conclave calls for customised NEP implementation, not blanket rollout

An Education Conclave in Chümoukedima, Nagaland, concluded that the National Education Policy 2020 cannot succeed in the Northeast through uniform implementation across all states. The region requires a negotiated, adequately funded and measurable roadmap that accounts for its geography, cultural diversity, economic potential and educational gaps.
The conclave identified five essential pillars: access, quality, skills, research and innovation, and entrepreneurship. Speakers emphasised that policy impact must be measured by outcomes for students in remote and underserved areas, not by documentation quality. The conclave called for expanded internships, apprenticeships, incubation programmes, regional faculty networks, shared research infrastructure and a common digital platform for the eight northeastern states.
Participants stressed NEP must move beyond degree-oriented education toward skills development and multidisciplinary learning. Flexible mechanisms including credit transfers, multiple entry-exit options and the Academic Bank of Credits were advocated to allow students to navigate interruptions and career changes without losing prior learning.
