Odisha Minister says impact of mines Act amendments yet to be assessed

Recent amendments passed by Parliament have restricted the powers of state governments to impose taxes, cess and other levies on mineral rights and mineral-bearing lands. Odisha's minerals minister stated that the state is still evaluating the full impact of these changes on its revenue and mining sector.
Legislators in the state have raised concerns about potential revenue losses resulting from the amended provisions. The amendments have curtailed state-level fiscal authority over mineral extraction and related levies, shifting greater control to the central government.
