Odisha fishers halt operations as diesel costs surge beyond affordability
Fishing operations in Odisha have come to a standstill as rising diesel costs have made it economically unviable for boat operators to venture into the sea. The Odisha Marine Fish Producers Association (OMFPA) reported that numerous fishing vessels remain docked at harbours across the state.
Operators cite abnormal fuel price levels as the primary reason for suspending their activities. The increased expenses have made it difficult for fishers to sustain their livelihoods, forcing many to keep their boats idle rather than undertake fishing expeditions that would result in financial losses.
