Welfare state cannot be apathetic to workers: Orissa High Court

The Orissa High Court has stated that a welfare state cannot remain indifferent to worker rights, particularly when public sector entities misuse contractual arrangements. The court's observation came in the context of an employee's regularisation case.
The bench noted that when government bodies engage in the systematic misuse of contracts, it replicates the exploitative patterns seen in the gig economy, undermining worker protections and social security benefits.
