Drug-related calls drop in Perumbavoor as police focus shifts to crime investigation

Drug-related complaints to Perumbavoor police station have declined significantly, freeing officers to prioritise crime investigation and administrative duties. According to Perumbavoor ASP Hardik Meena, the change stems from increased police presence and intensified enforcement under Operation Toofan, which has reduced both drug supply and demand in the area.
Drug prices have risen sharply due to the operation's enforcement efforts. Prices climbed from Rs 600–900 three months ago to Rs 1,700–2,000 currently, peaking at Rs 3,000–3,500 during Assam floods. A newly deployed 25-member police platoon has strengthened presence in the market area, a known drug hub, with two officers permanently stationed and four additional personnel during peak hours.
The reduced complaint load has enabled Perumbavoor police to dedicate sustained attention to serious cases, such as major drug trafficking investigations that require inter-district coordination.
