Port unions urge Centre to strengthen maritime security for Indian seafarers

Port unions have appealed to the Centre to take immediate steps to safeguard Indian seafarers working on maritime routes affected by conflict. The federation has urged the government to strengthen maritime security infrastructure, bolster diplomatic efforts, and establish robust emergency-response mechanisms.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the safety of seafarers navigating high-risk waters. The unions emphasize the need for coordinated action between maritime authorities and the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure adequate protection for Indian nationals working at sea.
