Suchika Tariyal Wins Historic MMA Bronze at Asian Games Despite Disputed Semifinal Loss

Suchika Tariyal won India's maiden Asian Games medal in MMA, claiming bronze in the women's traditional 60kg category at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games. However, the achievement came after a contentious semifinal against Singapore's Teo Hui Hoon.
Tariyal was initially declared the loser after the bout went to an extra round. She protested the decision, and after review, the contest was ruled a draw. However, competition rules required a tiebreak to determine the winner since the draw did not advance her to the final.
Under MMA rules, when earlier tiebreakers fail to separate tied fighters, the decision is made based on weight difference. Teo prevailed by a margin of 700 grams, denying Tariyal a place in the final. Despite the narrow loss, her bronze medal marks a historic milestone for Indian MMA.
