RBI exempts individuals from new FEMA reporting requirement

The Reserve Bank of India has clarified that individuals will be exempt from a new foreign exchange reporting requirement under FEMA regulations. The exemption is expected to ease concerns among small digital service providers and individuals engaging in legitimate cross-border payments for personal or small-scale professional purposes.
The move addresses worries that stricter compliance norms might burden ordinary citizens and small operators conducting routine international transactions. The RBI's clarification aims to strike a balance between regulatory oversight and practical compliance for non-institutional players.
