RBI explores gold tokenisation through Unified Markets Interface

The Reserve Bank of India is exploring the possibility of tokenising gold through its Unified Markets Interface, a platform that currently settles tokenised financial instruments using central bank digital currency.
The RBI aims to expand the interface to include additional asset classes beyond the instruments already tested. While gold is under consideration, the central bank is also examining other financial assets for potential inclusion.
The central bank is carefully evaluating the regulatory and systemic risks that may arise from these expansions before proceeding with broader implementation.
